How much freezer space will I need?

A good rule of thumb is 1 cubic foot of freezer space for every 35-40 lbs of meat.

1/8 (~65#) about 2 cubic feet

1/4 (~125#) about 4 cubic feet

1/2 (~250#) about 8 cubic feet

Whole (~500#) about 16 cubic feet

How do I know what cuts I can get?

Byron Center Meats has an awesome guide for cuts and other processing information. Each processor has slightly different capabilities, but it will give you a good idea what to expect.

How long after placing an order for a “Share” of beef can I expect to have my beef in my freezer?

Buying beef by the share ( 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, or whole) means that you are buying a portion of a whole beef. With that, you generally have to wait until we have a whole beef sold to be sent for slaughter. We have animals grown year round, but it can take an extra month or 2 to get to your freezer. If you want to speed things up, find some friends or family that are interested to get a whole beef put together yourself!
